Achiever Secret
What's your latest achiever secret?

Expert 1-on-1 with Susan Fletcher

How to Get More Done

Sandra  Bienkowski  October 2, 2009

Susan Fletcher is a practicing psychologist, speaker, consultant and author of Working in the Smart Zone and Parenting in the Smart Zone. She's the CEO of Fletcher & Associates Psychological Services and Smart Zone Solutions. A stress management and productivity expert, Fletcher is also a wife and mother of three.

What are her secrets to getting more done while keeping stress in check?

Be deliberate. "I am very deliberate. I don't leave a lot up to chance since my attention is needed in so many places. You have to say 'No' to things that you might enjoy but are not in line with where you are at. For every decision, ask yourself, "Is this going to be consistent with what I want to be doing?"

Find an accountability partner. Joining boot camp was tough with three young children, but Fletcher said her trainer could talk to her in a way no one else could. "He was my accountability partner for exercise and I was more disciplined. I didn't always want to go, but I knew I'd hear about it if I didn't. When I was done, I was always better for it."

Keep the mental theater in check. "Sometimes I have a fight with my husband and he doesn't even know it. It's mental theater and it creates anxiety."

Don't try to be everything."Women like to be all things to all people, but you just can't do that if you want to be successful."

Don't worry. "It isn't my quote but it's the best description I have ever heard. "Worry is the misuse of imagination."
