Not one to rest on his laurels, acclaimed actor Kevin Bacon launched SixDegrees.org in 2007. A tongue in cheek reference to the pop-culture phenomenon, SixDegrees.org was formulated around the idea of "social networking with a social conscience". The site garners big name celebrities to raise awareness on a variety of charitable issues.
Q. What’s your biggest success?
A. “My family.” Married for 20 years to actress Kyra Sedgewick, with whom he has children aged 18 and 15, Kevin Bacon says his kids are “amazing. I’m thrilled with the way they’re turning out.”
Q. How do you balance your work and personal life? “It’s hard. You have to make priorities.
A. You have to prioritize your family. And hopefully it shakes down from there.”
Q. What drives you? How do you stay motivated?
A. “I’m a very active person. I’m not just going to sit back. I’ve had to find those times in my year or my day when I actually do that, because the rest of the time, I’m on the move.”
Q. How do you keep learning and growing, both professionally and personally?
A. “I try to keep my eyes open, keep my heart open. I try as much as possible to live a life without judgment, to read the paper, to challenge myself creatively, in terms of the kinds of parts that I take, or the choice of having a rock band. [Bacon and brother Michael perform as The Bacon Brothers.] If it’s something that seems like I shouldn’t do it—it’s too frightening, whatever—that’s the thing I’m drawn to.”
